Melting Pot...

Some people see assimilation as betrayal to their cultural. As if one was to ashamed of where their from they  act like the majority of the population; they would either add to their upbringing or they would get rid of some traditions. Assimilation is when we take new information and incorporate them with our ideas to fit in with our already existing beliefs . As for A Raisin in the Sun  there is a young women, Beneatha she is trying to become a doctor. This young lady lives with her family in a one bedroom apartment, all she wants to do is better her skills and abilities to improve her living status. Some say the career choice is out of her reach not only is it uncommon for a girl to be a doctor in this time period but one of Beneatha's race as well. Shes not trying to fight in or ignore who she is but she only wants to better her future, she sees what it cost to live with out stress and the first step to that is to get a education and have a career that guaranties a strong income. Shes living in AMERICA the land of opportunities, mixing her culture and lifestyles with other classes not changing completely who she is.
